What Happens At The Staircase With A Loft Addition?

Here's a before and after picture showing what happens at the staircase when a new loft addition is built. The handrail must be continuous from the first step to the top step. In addition to the hand rail jogging around the new wall it has also been upgraded from wood to wrought iron.
