Before and After Stair Landing & Railing

When a loft addition is built within an existing "open to blow" space the stair landing is often close at hand. What exactly happens here is not always easy to visualize if you're used to it being open and overlooking the room below.

Here is a before and after picture showing what happens when the existing stair railing is a little too close to where the new ceiling line is being built. We simply fill in the landing and attach the rail to the new wall.

We call this method; "walling up the landing"
